Dentures

At our practice, a key aspect of the dental care we provide is focused on helping our patients keep their teeth for life. Good dentistry is all about helping patients preserve their teeth for as long as possible, though regular check-ups and providing them with help and advice on looking after their teeth and gums.

However in some cases, despite all of our best efforts, some of our patients find that they need dentures to replace missing teeth. The good news is that modern dentures are much more comfortable and well fitting than in the past.

Despite improvements over recent years, we should point out that, even the best dentures won’t feel the same as your natural teeth. They will take a bit of time to get used to, talking and eating will take a bit of practice.

Dentures can be full or partial. A full, or complete denture as it is also known, is one that replaces all the teeth at the top or the bottom of your mouth. A partial denture is one that fills spaces left by missing teeth. Dentures are made so that they fit snugly over your gums and are one of a range of options for missing teeth.

We will examine your mouth to decide if dentures are suitable for you. It may be that some teeth will need to be extracted and/or you may need treatment to get your gums in to good condition first.

An impression of your gums will be taken. This will be given to the dental technician who will make your dentures to fit the exact contours of your mouth.

Your dentist will advise you as to how to care for your dentures so that they remain in good condition. Provided you treat them correctly, they should last you for a number of years.
